Itinerary

DAY 1 Thursday 9th November – Welcome and Dinner

Meet the group at Turin airport (see further details below Flights/Travel). A coach will transfer us to Albergo Cantine Ascheri in Bra, our base for the next 4 nights, where we will check in.

This evening we will have a briefing about the program and then a 4 course dinner with wines at the nearby Osteria Murivecchi (in the same ownership as our hotel). Various regional wines from Cantine Ascheri will be served with dinner.

DAY 2 Friday 10th November – Roero and Monferrato

After breakfast we drive to a winery in the Roero region, with a tour of the cellar and tasting of different wines from the Roero region, including a selection of White Roero Arneis DOCG wines from different vineyard sites and different vintages and some Red ‘Roero’ Nebbiolo (the same grape variety as in Barbaresco and Barolo, but grown in a very different soil).

Lunch today will be a at a trattoria serving typical dishes from the region and include at least one starter, pasta course (or meat dish), desert and 1/2 bottle wine per person

This afternoon we visit a producer at a beautiful castle in the Monferrato region, where they are making some of the highest quality Barbera D’Asti DOCG wines in the region.

Return to hotel and this evening is free to try one of the restaurants in the town

DAY 3 Saturday 11th November – Barolo and Barbaresco

After breakfast we drive to Barbaresco to visit a producer located in the heart of the most important ‘Cru’ vineyards. There will be a tour of the cellar followed by a tasting of several wines including different single vineyard ‘Cru’ Barbaresco DOCG wines and vintages

Lunch will be at a trattoria in the village of Barbaresco with 1/2 bottle of wine per person included

This afternoon we visit a producer in the Barolo region of Monforte D’Alba, where we will have a tour in the vineyards, a brief visit to the ageing room and then a tasting of several wines including Dolcetto, Barbera D’Alba, Nebbiolo and four different Barolo wines including a Riserva. There may be a possibility to try Grappa and Barolo Chinato (a sweet desert wine made from Barolo, sugar and herbs and spices). There is also an interesting small museum here.

Afterwards we visit the village of Barolo and then return to our hotel. This evening is free.

DAY 4 Sunday 12th November – The Truffle Day!

After breakfast this morning we will have a Truffle hunt with a hunter and his dog in private woods in one of the best places for the highest quality White Truffle. The woods have been managed over many years, so although we can’t guarantee finding truffles (it will be an authentic hunt - not simulated), we usually do find some here at this time of year.

Return to the truffle hunter’s farmhouse for a visit to the cellar, where we can try several wines from the Barrels, followed by a home cooked traditional lunch, to include: locally made salami, 2 starters (made from seasonal produce from their garden), hand-made Pasta with alpine butter and fresh white truffle*, desert, coffee and a selection of wines, including Cortese, Grignolino, Barbera D’Asti and Brachetto D’Acqui

*NB: White truffle is 10 times the price of Black truffle - a shaving of White Truffle on a pasta dish in a restaurant last year was between €30 and €40 - not including the pasta!

This afternoon we visit the Truffle festival in Alba. Our guide will explain the activities taking place on that day and take us to the truffle market (entrance cost included). We will then have a couple of hours’ free time to enjoy Alba.

Return to the hotel around 6.30/7.00 pm. Alternatively you may want to stay and have dinner in Alba.

DAY 5 Monday 13th November – Cookery Class

After breakfast check out of our hotel and drive to the cookery school of a winery in the Barolo zone. The cookery class will be ‘Hands on’ for all participants, preparing several dishes for our lunch, including appetiser, primo (pasta course), secondo (meat course) and desert. We will have the opportunity to try a wide variety of wines from the region, including a Chardonnay, Barbera and Nebbiolo blend, Barbaresco, Barolo and Moscato.

This afternoon time permitting we will have a brief visit to the UNESCO recognised Grinzane Cavour Castle. This is a spectacular ancient castle of particular importance to the region containing a small museum and a shop selling local food and wines from the region. They also have a few wines and different types of grappa that can be tried - costed by the glass (optional not included).

Mid-afternoon we will leave Barolo and drive back to Turin airport to arrive by 5.30 pm in time to check-in for the BA flight back to London

FLIGHTS: You will need to book your own flights to/from Turin. Our tour bus will collect/drop us at Turin airport to meet the following British Airways flights:

If you do not take these flights you will need to be at Turin airport to meet the group at 18.30 on 9th November
