We drive south to Cote Rotie and Condrieu, two appellations which produce very high quality wines from Syrah and Viognier, where we will visit two wine producers for tastings. The group lunch today will be at a local restaurant which has 1 Michelin star.
Late afternoon we drive to the nearby town of Vienne and check into Hotel La Pyramide which is a member of Relais & Chateaux.
This evening will be free. If you wish you can dine at the hotel’s gastronomic 2 Michelin Star restaurant (advance booking strongly recommended) or at its less formal Bistrot PH3. Or just relax and unwind in the beautiful gardens with a glass of something special.
DAY 2 Friday 23rd June:
After breakfast check out of La Pyramide and this morning we will have a private guided tour of the Gallo-Roman town of Vienne. Late morning we drive to St Joseph and today will visit two producers where we will taste a range of wines from various appellations. We will have a group lunch either at one of these producers or at a local restaurant.
Late afternoon we continue south to Tournon-sur-Rhone and check into our accommodation for the next two nights - Hotel de la Villeon, a unique hotel in the heart of the town. Originally built in the 18th century as a private mansion it has been recently lovingly converted into a boutique hotel with just 16 rooms and suites.
This evening is free to soak up the atmosphere of the hotel and enjoy a drink at the cosy bar or in the gardens. Or you may like to explore the town and restaurants of Tournon or Tain l’Hermitage across the river.
DAY 3 Saturday 24th June:
After enjoying breakfast today we will visit two producers in the appellations of Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage. We will see the extraordinary steep vineyards around the famous Hill of Hermitage and taste several high quality wines. Lunch will be at the famous negociant Michel Chapoutier or at another local restaurant.
This evening will be free. For a fine dining experience try Michel Chabran in nearby Pont de l’Isere which has 1 Michelin star, or Pic in Valence which has 3 stars!
DAY 4th Sunday 25th June:
we check out of our hotel and drive south to the appellations of Cornas and St. Peray. Cornas produces rich Syrahs and St. Peray aromatic whites mostly from Marsanne. We will have a group lunch at a winery or local restaurant and then mid-afternoon drive north to Lyon airport where our coach will drop us by 16.00 latest.
FLIGHTS: You will need to book your own flights to/from Lyon for this tour. British Airways flies from London Heathrow to Lyon and Easyjet flies from London Gatwick to Lyon. We will arrange a meeting place in central Lyon (exact location to be advised) at around 9.30 am on 22nd June.
