Loire Wine Tour 2024
Loire Wine Tour
For our first tour to the Loire Valley we couldn’t quite cover all of it. After all the Loire is the longest river in France and vineyards stretch along 550 kms of its banks! Based in the town of Saumur, overlooked by it’s stunning castle, our visits focused on the appellations of Savennieres, Anjou Brissac, Saumur-Champigny, Chinon and Bourgeuil. The dominant grapes here are Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc and we sampled plenty of fine wines made from these varieties, whilst meeting passionate and inspirational winemakers.

At a well-known Cremant producer we explored the impressive cellars hewn out of tuffeau and sampled a range of their sparkling wines. We enjoyed delicious food and had a wonderful evening at the house of UK friends with food from a local caterer. No doubt we’ll be back to explore the other parts of this magical region!
