Porto & Douro Wine Tour
Our wine tour to Porto and the Douro Valley in October delivered an unforgettable blend of culture, scenery and world-class wine. Travellers joined us for a five-day journey that showcased the very best of northern Portugal – from historic city streets to the dramatic terraced vineyards of the Douro.
The tour began in Porto, where guests enjoyed a boutique hotel stay and time to explore the city’s characterful lanes, tiled churches and riverside viewpoints. A visit to Vila Nova de Gaia offered a deeper look into the tradition of Port wine ageing. Walking through atmospheric cellars, learning about the craftsmanship behind each style, and sampling a curated selection of Ports were early highlights that set the tone for the trip.
From Porto, the group travelled into the heart of the Douro Valley along one of Europe’s most scenic rail routes. The unfolding landscape of steep slopes, winding river and neatly carved vineyards quickly became a favourite element of the tour. Visits to several Quintas allowed guests to experience the region’s winemaking heritage first-hand. Tastings included characterful Douro reds, elegant whites and exceptional Ports, accompanied by insights into local grape varieties, winemaking practices and the unique schist soils that give the wines their distinctive depth.
Memorable meals in vineyard settings, relaxed evenings overlooking the river and warm hospitality throughout made the journey even more special. Many guests described the Douro’s panoramic views – enjoyed with a glass of wine in hand – as the standout moment of the trip.
The wine tour concluded back in Porto, with guests returning home having discovered not only the wines of the region but also the rich history, culture and landscapes that shape them.
