Priorat Wine Tour
Priorat Wine Tour
Our first foray into North-East Spain introduced us to a fascinating range of wine styles. The tour was ‘top and tailed’ by visits to two high quality sparkling wine producers in Penedes who belong to the prestigious Corpinat association. The wines at Llopart were particularly impressive and more than a match for champagne! During the other three days we explored the Denominations of Monstant, Priorat and Terra Alta, visiting boutique family wineries and a couple of historical, local co-ops. We tasted a few fragrant whites and many big bold reds based on old vine Garnacha and Carinena. We dined at Michelin-listed and local, family restaurants. And, not forgetting local culture, we were awed by the extraordinary ‘Cathedral of Wine’ in El Pinell de Brai, and the rambling remains of the ancient Scala Dei monastery that brought wine-making to Priorat.
