Day 1: Thursday 9th May
Bulgaria Wine Tour Arrival & Welcome Dinner
Arrival at Sofia airport at 13.15 with British Airways flight from London. Group pick-up from Sofia Airport and transfer to Plovdiv (2h). Tasting at Dragomir Winery. Check-in to 4-star Markovo Park & Spa Hotel. Welcome dinner at Bendida Enoteca paired with boutique wines from Bendida Wine Cellar, a 4th-generation family winery.
Day 2: Friday 10th May
Old Country, Modern Wines
Continue to explore Bulgarian wines at Chateau Copsa located in a small wine region called The Valley of Roses. This gets its name from the vast rose plantations and long history of producing rose oil and if we are lucky, we may be able to see rose plantations on the way to the winery. At the chateau, we will receive a short tour of the complex and then a tasting of five of their wines accompanied by lunch in their acclaimed restaurant. We continue to our next destination – Rumelia Wine Cellar. The manager of the winery will show us around the winery that continues to impress with its wines, especially its Mavrud and Mavrud Blends which have won multiple national and international awards. Return to Plovdiv (1.5 hours). Free evening. Your tour leader can help with restaurant recommendations and bookings.
Day 3: Saturday 11th May
Wine Tasting in the Yakata Micro-Region
Today, we start the day with a visit to the modern Villa Yustina Winery, where we will have a tour of the vineyards and winery ending with a superb wine-paired lunch in the charming tasting room. In the afternoon, we visit Bachkovo Monastery – the second largest orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. There will be free time to explore the churches and history of the charming monastery. Many street vendors set up shop outside the monastery walls making it possible to buy souvenirs such as hand painted ceramics, homemade jams and special Bulgarian herbs and spices. En-route to Plovdiv, we make a stop at Zagreus Winery – a 100% organic winery. The winemaker will show us around and tell us the story behind the family winery that now has established a strong brand due to its bold vision of sustainability, innovation and focus on the regional native grape: Mavrud! Return to Plovdiv. Free evening.
Day 4 Sunday 12th May
Plovdiv and The Wine & Gourmet Festival
We start the day with a guided walking tour of Plovdiv when we will see Romain ruins and Art Deco buildings! We will end up at Old Plovdiv which will be buzzing with activity as the annual Wine & Gourmet Festival takes place in the Old Town amongst charming 19th century houses. The Festival features wine tastings from over 20 Bulgarian wine producers, plenty of food from local restaurants and live music. The afternoon is free for you to enjoy the Wine & Gourmet Festival walking from stand to stand exploring the wines and food of Bulgaria. In the evening, there will be a farewell dinner.
Day 5: Monday 13th May Departure
After breakfast, check-out of hotel. Group transfer to Sofia Airport (2 hours).
