Speyside Whisky tour
Our first tour to Speyside, the centre of single malt whisky production, and the most important whisky producing region not just in the UK but in the world! After a lunch stop in Inverness, our first distillery visit at Tomatin introduced us to the multi-stage process of making whisky and a comprehensive tasting of malts. Then to our private accommodation near the town of Forres, a beautiful Georgian mansion with elegant, spacious reception rooms, and comfortable, modern bedrooms.
That evening we enjoyed a fascinating tutored tasting of rare malts by a renowned whisky expert, and then a gastronomic 5 course meal accompanied by fine wines, catered by a professional chef who would not be out of place in a Michelin starred restaurant. The rest of the tour took us to several more distilleries, including the favourite, the still family-owned Glenfarclas, a craft brewery, and a cooperage where we witnessed the all-important barrels being made and repaired. Truly a memorable few days.
